Anna Mary Wheeler

"Art is my life. Everything is art to me. I live and breathe colour! My Painting is all about colour. I can't get enough of it! I am inspired by the natural world and the world of myth and my imagination. I love to paint a visual sensation, a feast for the eyes! I like to use thick paint and bold, calligraphic brush strokes. My painting is figurative and abstract at the same time.

Some of my influences are the Abstract Expressionists such as Jackson Pollock and De Kooning and the European Modern Masters such as Picasso, Matisse, Chagall and Van Gogh. I also love Frida Kahlo, Sidney Nolan and Basquiat.

Whilst at the National Art School in the late 1990s, Anna had a major surfing accident and broke her neck in two places. The accident changed her life forever and she made a serious decision to become a painter.
