Aaron Barkla
Aaron Barkla's art practice is informed by the candid Sydney streets. He draws inspiration from weathered and distressed textures, from street items such as bill posters, road signs, signage and architecture. He distills these elements to an extremly paired back aesthetic which vaugely resembling what he sees. Typically observing at night; forms reveal themselves to him with the contrast of light and shadow. The compositions usually consist of a square and 1 or 2 lines which are sculpted, cut, pasted and sometimes even weaved using paint skin. His art addresses ideas of calm, movement, conflict, degradation, and anthropomorphism. Aaron is a Aotearoa/New
