Our story
Ochredfern was initially conceived as an idea for an art installation where the interior is a vignette of the creators own home. Taking treasured pieces of furniture and objects to fill the space, giving it a welcoming air. Ochredfern is peppered with vintage and new pieces sourced locally and abroad. The art, paintings, ceramics, sculpture, drawings and prints along with handcrafted jewellery are predominantly procured from local artists in the Sydney area.
Ochredfern proudly supports local artists, showcasing their work in store with finely curated exhibitions - this affords artists the exposure they deserve. The notion is to encourage prospective shoppers to invest in homegrown talent and enrich their domiciles or businesses with original pieces of art, sculpture or ceramics.
Our range is being expanded to include hand crafted items for the home or wardrobe. We look forward to your visit and indulging in the experience that is Ochredfern
OCHRE is an ancient earth pigment used by indigenous people in Australia and across the globe, documented evidence suggests that ochres have been in use in one way or another for more than 300 000 years. Ochre is a family of earth pigments, which includes yellow ochre, red ochre, purple ochre, sienna, and umber. The major ingredient of all the ochres is iron(III) oxide-hydroxide, known as limonite, which gives them a yellow colour.
Yellow symbolizes intellect, creativity, happiness and the power of persuasion. In healing use yellow to promote clarity of thought. In the aura yellow signifies intellectual development, for either material or spiritual ends
