AMANDA JANE

1. What does Colour mean to you?

Colour is my “Happy Place”.  My art is my therapy.   My creatures are big furry anti-depressants and I make them as bright and colourful as I can. I feel like I’m adding the whole bag of sugar to a delicious pudding!

2.If you were a colour what colour would you be?

I would be bright fuchsia pink, like lipstick & roses, and I would smell like a big pink musk stick.

3. Tell me about purple

Purple is PRINCE,  Elizabeth Taylor’s eyes, Cadbury’s Dairy Milk, Violets & The Purple Heart for Bravery!

Amanda Jane aka Baby Pie’s journey as an artist began just four years ago, marked by a profound turning point in her life. Following a harrowing car accident that nearly claimed her life, Amanda endured a gruelling three-month stay in the hospital, grappling with a multitude of injuries including fractured limbs and severe trauma. Emerging from this ordeal, she found herself battling not only physical pain but also grappling with profound depression and memory loss. It was a long and arduous road to recovery, one that demanded both resilience and perseverance.

Yet, amid the darkness, Amanda discovered a glimmer of hope through her art. As she gradually regained strength, she turned to her creative instincts, channeling her inner turmoil into breathtaking sculptures bursting with vibrant hues. These creations became more than mere artworks; they became her lifeline, a form of therapy to navigate the depths of post-traumatic stress disorder, accompanied by  her faithful Yorkshire Terrier, Dudley, by her side as her PTSD service dog.

Amanda affectionately dubbed her sculptures her 'Furry Anti-Depressants,' recognising the healing power they held for her. Encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive response from admirers, Amanda's pieces soon found eager buyers, culminating in an exhibition at the  Vivid Gallery in Surry Hills in 2019. The event proved to be a pivotal moment in her career as an artist, with five of her sculptures swiftly finding new homes, including one acquired by Heath Johns, CEO of BMG Music.

Buoyed by the success of her debut exhibition, Amanda was granted the opportunity to showcase her work in a solo show at the iconic Bondi Pavilion Gallery. Once again, her art captivated audiences, with one piece even making its way across the seas to find a place in an American home.

While Amanda's journey into the world of art was unconventional, lacking formal training, her innate sense of style and unwavering confidence in her creativity have been her guiding lights. Today, as she reflects on her remarkable evolution as an artist, Amanda Jane, aka Baby Pie, remains humbled and gratified by the happiness and joy her creations continue to impart to others.

Amanda was a also a finalist in the prestigious 'Wollombi Sculpture in The Vineyards' artist competition.
