ANDRE WILMANS
As an artist rooted in the vibrant community of Redfern, a place pulsating with life and standing proudly on Gadigal land. My creative odyssey commenced amidst the rustic charm of my small-town origins in South Africa. From a tender age, I was drawn to the arts, experimenting with diverse painting mediums and styles. My educational foray into Graphic Design in Johannesburg during the late '80s profoundly shaped my artistic approach, giving rise to a signature style marked by organic contours and striking graphic elements.
The post-Impressionist movement of the late 1800s, with its aversion to naturalistic detail and its penchant for abstraction, has been a significant source of inspiration for me. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, a master of painting, printmaking, draughtsmanship, caricature, and illustration, remains one of my most revered artists from this transformative era.
His work continues to influence my artistic journey, infusing it with a sense of boldness and expressive freedom.
Throughout the years, my creations have found companionship in the works of fellow artists, showcased in a myriad of art exhibitions.
