Emily Lane
The main reason I wanted to be a painter was to play with colour. The best Christmas present I ever got at age 10 was a set of 1 litre bottles of paint, allowing me to experiment with colour on a larger scale. During my degree through TAFE NSW I honed my ability to match realistic colours but found myself drawn to inventing fantasy worlds governed by colour and perspective. My first year of full time practice has meant freedom to extend ideas in any direction, pursuing themes and techniques that interest me. Portraiture and figurative painting and drawing call to me most strongly but I would describe myself as an interdisciplinary artist who loves all subject matter. I have exhibited at Blue Mountains Cultural Centre several times, been a finalist in Fisher’s Ghost (2022), and won The Factory Art Prize (2023).
