LEO GREENFIELD

Gadigal Country based artist Leo Greenfield sees drawing as central to his studio practice. He uses drawing to document daily life, creating intimate social portraits of people and places.

Since graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2009, Greenfield has collaborated with institutions including the Sydney Jewish Museum, the Powerhouse Museum, the University of Adelaide, NGV Australia and the Sherman Centre for Culture and Ideas. Exhibiting works such as ‘Small Victories’, which is a drawn catalog of handholds, celebrating the bravery of Queer couples in public spaces. 

Greenfield has illustrated numerous books, such as Proud (Little Tiger Press, UK, 2019) and Style Forever (Hardie Grant UK 2016) and been published by Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Architectural Digest. His artwork has been commissioned for projects by Chanel, Gucci and Tiffany & Co., giving him insight into the fashion world he comments on in his practice.

From 2015 to 2020 he wrote a monthly column, entitled ‘Drawn to the City’, for the Adelaide Review, where he chronicled the lives of people living in South Australia. Today Greenfield’s artwork continues to use drawing as a tool for sharing stories across platforms, from traditional printmaking to social media.
