1. What does colour mean to you?

Colour to me is opportunity and expression.

A hard white light is devoid of that which makes it, and a rich white pigment is absent of that which it deserves. Colours are the flavours of the eyes, like the instruments of an orchestra. Sometimes they jump out at you, sometimes you have to search for them. But together they can make a masterpiece.

2. If you were a colour what colour would you be?

I would be a vibrant orange. I once saw an orange so intense and vibrant I would almost describe it as “loud”. Maybe thats fitting.

3. Tell me about purple.

Purple is a secondary colour, the product of red and blue. But you already knew that.

Purple has a rich history, and I use the word “rich” in a literal sense. The colour of wealth and royalty, once only attainable to the powerful and prestigious. Tyrian purple was sought after and worth its weight in gold, sometimes more.

Han Purple was so lucrative it travelled the silk road. And now “purple” sits in a little tube between red and blue. Or between other shades of purple, depending on your budget. So when I see purple, I’m grateful that I can use it as I please. But I don’t forget the journey it took to get to my palette.
