Waldemar Kirpichnikov
Waldemar Kirpichnikov is a Sydney-based visual artist working primarily in the ceramic medium and creating unusually shaped objects through the process of hand-building. Asymmetry and texture are significant aspects of Waldemar’s work, which is informed by the natural environment with its abundance of asymmetrical shapes and a variety of textured surfaces. Waldemar embraces incidental cracks that sometimes appear on the sculptures’ exterior due to the high temperatures the sculptures are exposed to in the firing process. To emphasize the cracks and reveal their beauty, Waldemar employs the traditional Japanese technique of mending ceramics with lacquer and metal powder called Kintsugi. Waldemar studied at the National Art School (BFA), completing a major in Ceramics.
